Row 4: P1, * K4, P1, repeat from *
Pattern:
Overcoat
Cast on 51 (61, 71) stitches. Work pooch plaid for 10 rows ending
with row 2.
Next row
(WS): work the first 6 stitches and last 6 stitches in pooch plaid, knitting
in stockinette stitch for
remaining stitches. Work until piece measures 4 (5, 6) inches from beginning
ending with a wrong side row.
Next row
(buttonhole row): work 2 stitches in pattern, bind off 2 stitches
(buttonhole), work two stitches in pattern, continue in
stockinette stitch, work 2 stitches in pattern, bind off 2 stitches, and
finish with 2 stitches in pattern. Work next row as established casting on 2
stitches over bound-off stitches on previous row. Repeat buttonhole rows
every 8th (12th, 18th) row 1 (1, 2) more times.
Work even
until piece measures 5.5 (8,11) inches, or desired length from beginning,
ending with a wrong side row.
Neck shape:
work first 6 stitches in pattern, K2tog, K to last 8 stitches, SSK, work in
pattern to end. Repeat decrease every 4th
(6th- 6th) row 3 more times. Work even until back length
measures 10 (13,16) inches or desired length. Bind off.
Undercoat
Cast on 41 (46, 51) stitches. Work in pooch
plaid for 10 rows ending with row 2.
Next row (WS):
work the first 6 and last 6 stitches in pooch plaid as in the overcoat until
piece measures 3.5
(5, 6.5) inches from beginning, ending with a WS row.
Next row:
Bind off 4 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Work 2 stitches in pattern, K2tog, K to last 4 stitches, SSK,
work 2 stitches in pattern. Continue
as established keeping first 2 and last w stitches in pattern, AT THE SAME
TIME, repeat decrease row every other row 2 (2,0) more times, every 4th
row 3 (4,7) more times. Work even
in pattern as established until final length of undercoat measures 7.5 (9,12)
inches from beginning. Bind off.
Neckband
Seam sides of
overcoat to undercoat for 1 inch beginning at bound-off edge.
Pick up stitches around bound-off edge making sure total stitches are a
multiple of 5 plus 1 stitch. Knit
10 rows in reverse pooch plaid (see chart), ending with row 2.
Bind off.
Finishing
Fold neck band over to reveal right side, sew
on 2 buttons on each side of undercoat matching up with buttonholes.
Weave in loose ends.
